About Smarter Home Savings
Owning a home is the biggest financial commitment most people ever make. We publish practical, plain-English guides that help you spend less on it.
What we do
Smarter Home Savings is an independent publication for homeowners. Every guide focuses on one thing: a concrete way to lower a bill, avoid an expensive repair, or make an upgrade that pays for itself. We cover energy and utilities, maintenance and repairs, DIY projects, home finance (insurance, property taxes, warranties), smart-home gear, and outdoor care.
How we research
Our guides draw on published data from utilities, the U.S. Department of Energy, insurers, manufacturers, and trade associations, combined with the hands-on experience of homeowners who have done the work. Where we cite a savings figure, it is a typical range — your results will depend on your home, climate, and local rates, and we say so.
We review and update guides when prices, codes, or best practices change. Each article shows its publication and last-updated dates.
How we make money
The site is free to read. We may earn a commission when you buy a product or sign up for a service through certain links, and we run some sponsored pages that are clearly labeled. Advertising never changes the advice in our editorial guides. Read the full Advertising Disclosure.
